EFCC closes case in trial of FFK over alleged money laundering


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC has closed its case in the trial of former Minister of Aviation and Tourism, Femi Fani-Kayode over a 40-count amended charge on money laundering, Vanguard reports.

At a resumed hearing of the case in a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, counsel to the EFCC in a letter delivered by Mr. Vitalis Ahaotu to the presiding Judge, Justice Rita-Ofili Ajumogobia, the EFCC notified the court of the commission's intention to close the case against the former Minister.

Counsel to Chief Fani-Kayode, Mr Wale Akoni did not object to the letter of closure but however informed the court of his intention to file a no-case submission to the charges against his client. The judge gave Mr Akoni 21 days to file a no case submission and adjourned the case till Oct. 28 for adoption of final written addresses. Continue...

Femi Fani Kayode has been standing trial since December 2008 over a 47-count charge of money laundering which was amended in March 2014 with 7 of the charges dropped. Among the charges against him was that he transacted business with funds exceeding N500, 000 without going through a financial institution.

He was also accused of accepting cash payments in the tune of about N100 million during his tenure as Minister of Aviation and Minister of Culture and Tourism, respectively.

Pres. Jonathan nominates FRSC boss as minister, to replace Stella Oduah


President Jonathan has nominated the current boss of the Federal Road Safety Commission FRSC, 43 year old Ositadinma Benjamin Chidoka as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to represent Anambra in the Federal Executive council.

According to reports, Chidoka is most likely to replace former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah who resigned her position in February. A letter of his nomination has been sent to the Nigerian Senate and would be read on the floor of the Senate today. Abubakar Olanrewaju from Kwara state was also nominated and would replace former Sports minister, Bolaji Abdullahi, in the Federal Executive Council if confirmed by the senate.

Eva Mendes 7 seven months pregnant with Ryan Gosling's baby




When it was first reported, people thought it was just rumour until talk-show host Ellen Degeneres confirmed it via twitter. Yes ladies, one of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors is going to be a daddy soon. Ryan Gosling, 33, and girlfriend of 3 years, beautiful actress Eva Mendes, 40, are expecting their first child. Eva, who hasn't been seen in public in months, is said to be seven months pregnant. 

"Ryan grew up without a dad, so he always said when he had kids, he'd be there no matter what. This is it for him. While Ryan is fully committed to the relationship, he doesn't share his girlfriend's desire to settle down and get married. Ryan doesn't think they need to marry just because they are having a baby but Eva believes it's important to have their lives fully intertwined.' A source told OK! magazine. Congrats to them.

30 women and children reportedly escape from Sambisa Forest


Another day, another escape story! According to reports, 30 women and children have escaped from the Boko Haram camp in Sambisa Forest. Sahara Reporters reports that a senior military officer who spoke anonymously said the women and children after escaping wandered through the forest and finally arrived the Madagali LGA in Adamawa state. He said they appeared in a village which is a border town between Adamawa and Borno state.

The unidentified security officer however declined to disclose if the women and children are among the over 200 girls that were abducted from the Chibok school. He however said the women and children who have been moved to an undisclosed hospital for rehabilitation narrated their ordeal in the Boko Haram camp. Continue...

He said some of the women said they had to leave their little children there due to the horrifying pain they were subjected to.

"They have talked about how some of them who were trying to escape were killed and some forced back when armed Boko Haram militants discovered them escaping.” he saidThe Chairman of the Madagali Local Government Area in Adamawa state James Watarda has also confirmed reports of the recent escapees. On Saturday July 5th, reports emerged of how 63 women reportedly fled the Boko Haram camp.
