APC To Boko Haram: Enough Is Enough On The Senseless Killings

Members of the Islamist sect – Boko Haram – have been called upon to halt their spate of attacks and embrace dialogue in the interest of national peace and security.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) which made the call in Warri, Delta State, in a statement signed by its interim national publicity secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, condemned the latest of such attacks that left many students of the College of Agriculture, Gujba in Yobe State dead and injured on Sunday. It described the killings as dastardly, senseless and indefensible.

The party implored traditional, religious, political and opinion leaders in the affected areas to urgently wade in to end the cycle of violence being perpetrated by the sect.

The statement reads in part, “It is clear that this Boko Haram menace cannot be resolved by the government alone, hence all stakeholders must urgently intervene to complement government’s efforts to end the insurgency and get those behind it to embrace dialogue.

“There can be no justification for Boko Haram sect to continue to kill and maim innocent citizens, especially because the victims are not just fellow Nigerians like them, but most are actually their kith and kin,’’ APC said.

The statement further described the continued violence by the sect as inexcusable, especially at a time that government has extended the Olive Branch by setting up a committee for dialogue.

“We in the APC have been unrelenting in our advocacy for dialogue as a way of ending the insurgency. Fortunately, the government has also embraced dialogue, after initially resisting it as an option.

“Boko Haram should remember that they are not fighting an external war, and that their grievances, whatever they are, can never be resolved by continued killing, maiming and plundering. They must therefore put an immediate end to their cycle of violence and opt for dialogue. The longer this violence continues, the more difficult it becomes to resolve. Enough is enough!’’ it said.

TRAGIC: Seven People Brutally Beheaded On Maiduguri/Damaturu Road

In a shocking incident, seven people have been reportedly killed Makintamari village in Kaga Local Government in Borno state along the Damaturu/Maiduguri road.

According to eyewitnesses account, the travellers were beheaded with their heads placed on their lifeless bodies on the main road.

In a related incident, gunmen also brutally attacked and slit the throats of 4 people on Saturday in the same village. The victims were reportedly returning to Maiduguri in the evening.

Makintamari is a few kilometers from Benishek where over 100 travelers were murdered a week ago by suspected Boko Haram sect members.

Yobe State Governor Ibrahim Gaidam appealed to Goodluck Jonathan, saying:

“We call on Mr. President and all the security chiefs, to intensify security operations through aerial surveillance, to contain the situation before it consumes the region and country.

“On our way from Maiduguri to Damaturu this afternoon (Sunday), we saw a trailer and bus that were burnt, with the occupants slaughtered and their corpses littering the highway.

“Government should rise up to its responsibilities to save the lives and properties of its citizens.”

The governor also added that anyone travelling on the Damaturu to Maiduguri highway, was taking a huge risk.

Sexiest Nollywood: Uche Jombo, Pat Attah go out

Season 3 of the quest for the Sexiest Man and Woman in Nollywood is coasting home gradually after months of rigorous search, voting, twists and turns in the unfolding tale.

We began with 25 men and 25 women and now we are down to the last 13 women and 12 men, which means on a particular week only a woman may have to go out.

This arose from from mathematical contraption as a result of close ties which saw two women advancing at the expense of one man.

Now the figure in the house: 13 women, 12 men came about after Uche Jombo and Pat Attah failed to make the bill. Both had it long coming after successive weeks of poor run in the quest.

Tonto Dikeh and Yul Edochie remain top of their respective leagues with some measure of smugness even though Tonto is repeatedly having her door being knocked by second-place Stephanie Okereke.

But the biggest twist of the week is Benson Okonkwo and Pope Odonwondo bundling into 3rd and 4th places respectively, shoving Frank Artus to the 5th place.

The duo have been playing ding-dong of hot chase for a while now and it came as no surprise to shock Artus.

Yet if care is not taken Frank Artus woes may just continue as Uti Nwachukwu is beginning to bear dividends. Uti moved up several places to sit in 6th. If his tempo is maintained the guy has got some steam on his wings to stun anybody.

Rita Dominic, Nadia Buari, Biodun Okeowo and Jackie Appiah have been in a trance of sort, neither moving forward nor backward.

But as we have come to know in this quest; anything can happen. So, who goes next and who makes the final 10 men and women. Your guess is as good as mine and only as certain as your votes.
